One person develops dementia every three minutes, yet too many face it alone.

This Dementia Action Week, the Alzheimer’s Society is calling on everyone to take action to improve the everyday lives of people affected by dementia.

In Hertsmere, organisations, charities or businesses can sign up to be part of the Hertsmere Dementia Action Alliance.

The Alzheimer’s Society’s also has the Dementia Friends programme, which is the biggest ever initiative to change people’s perceptions of dementia. The Dementia Friends sessions aim to raise awareness and change the way we act, as you will learn more about dementia and the small ways you can help.

It is free to attend a session and become a Dementia Friend, the sessions usually last just one hour. Find your closest awareness session on the Dementia Friends website.

If a family member or friend is living with dementia, then you can also access support through Hertswise. Hertswise is a county-wide project that will offer easy-to-access information and advice, activities and support regardless of diagnosis status.
